BCBSNC TOOLS TO VICTORY
4:10 p.m.
Here are tonight's three Tools to Victory presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
1. Stepping Up
Jeff Skinner, who is tied for the team lead in scoring with six points (2g, 4a), is out tonight. Who is going to step up and contribute offensively in his absence? We'll find out if there is an answer.
2. New-Look Fourth Line
Having wingers Andrej Nestrasil and Martin Frk surround center Jay McClement on the fourth line instead of wingers Bryan Bickell and Viktor Stalberg gives the Canes' fourth line perhaps some added offensive flair. Nestrasil and Frk, both former members of the Red Wings' organization, will be looked upon tonight to elevate their respective games.
3. Nakladal Back In
Jakub Nakladal will play his second game with the Hurricanes, and head coach Bill Peters is looking for a more complete game from the defenseman now that he has had a week's worth of practice time to acclimate himself to the team.

Head coach Bill Peters spoke with the media in Detroit after his team's last regular season morning skate at The Joe.
On Nestrasil and Frk getting back into the lineup and if they'll have extra jump against their former team: "I think they'll have jump just because they need to get some traction to their season. The big thing is they have to come in and play well, no matter who you're playing. If you get some added incentive and a little extra juice because you're playing Detroit, that's beneficial."
On forward lines with Skinner out: "I expect to do some line juggling and matching and go from there. We'll let the game unfold and see who's playing well."
On Nakladal playing his second game with the Canes tonight: "He finished the World Cup, went home for three weeks and then he's back. We stick him in a game, and it probably wasn't the perfect scenario for him, but that's part of being a pro. You have to get yourself ready. I know he's worked real hard on and off the ice between the Edmonton game and where we are today. He should be a much better player today and be more accustomed to how we play."
On tonight's opponent: "Real tight defensively right now. … Real tight 5-on-5. They play a good solid team game, and they get contributions throughout the lineup."
On The Joe: "It's a great building. There's a lot of history in this building for everybody. Growing up … you were watching playoff series, some titanic battles in this building. You've seen the Stanley Cup be awarded in this building. You've seen a lot of things over the years. It's a great, old building."
CANES LINES: MORNING SKATE
11:35 a.m.
It looks like the Hurricanes will make a number of adjustments to their lineup tonight. Jeff Skinner did not take part in the morning skate, so he will miss tonight's game. Viktor Stalberg will draw into Skinner's left wing position. Former Red Wings Andrej Nestrasil and Martin Frk also appear to be in the lineup, with Bryan Bickell coming out. On defense, Jakub Nakladal is back in with Noah Hanifin.

CANES MAKE LAST-EVER STOP AT THE JOE
6:00 a.m.
A six-game road segment concludes for the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena, the team's last-ever regular season stop at the historical barn.
The Hurricanes have posted a 1-2-2 record in their first five games of the season, all played away from PNC Arena. Tuesday's match is a chance for the Canes to bring home a .500 record.
"I'll rate the trip when the trip's over," head coach Bill Peters said after practice in Raleigh on Monday.
The Hurricanes have had leads, brief or otherwise, in four of their first five games. Thus far, their lone win came in Calgary, when they preserved a 3-0 lead to win 4-2.
"I look at the positives. I look at everything," Peters said. "You try to be solution-based and fix what ails us. We're giving up too many goals, whether we've had the lead or been behind. We've got to figure that out. We knew we had more skill, but now we have to make sure our work ethic is where it was last year. We had a very hard-working team last year. We had a hard-working, honest team for 60 to 65 minutes each and every night, and we have to get back to that."
Carolina has recorded an average of 3.2 goals per game, but they've surrendered an average of 4 per game.
